Is your child telling lies? Don't worry! It's actually a sign of successful cognitive development!
Please take a look around our site and click below to find out more about children's lies.
We are a research team at Brock University interested in children and adolescence's social and cognitive development. In general, we study when children tell lies, why they tell lies, and what are the optimal methods to promote truth-telling in children. Additionally, we are interested in how to question children to obtain the most honest and accurate reports as well as question types that children have difficulty answering.
What's even more interesting is that lie-telling appears to be related to cognitive development! In fact, our research has linked children's lie-telling with their performance on mental tasks such as their ability to stop themselves from saying obvious answers in specific situations. So, don’t be too worried if your child is telling some lies. It’s actually a great sign that their brains are developing on track!
