What does a visit to our lab look like?

Before your session:

Picture
  •   Arriving on campus you will follow well marked signs to one of our free and conveniently located Life Span parking spaces
  • One of our research assistants will meet you at your parking spot and escort you up to our waiting room.

Upon your arrival:

  • Your child will have the chance to play with a selection of fun toys and warm-up to the new environment (don’t worry if your child is shy – we always wait until the child is comfortable before we begin a session)
  • You will have the opportunity to read over the consent form and ask any questions you may have

 The session:

Picture
  • When you and your child agree to begin a research assistant will invite your child to join them in the child-friendly testing room. You will be able to watch everything on camera from our separate viewing room
  • During the session your child will complete a series of fun game-like tasks (i.e. Simon-says type games, memory search games), while you watch and learn about how they think about their social world

After the session:

  • Your child gets to pick out a toy from our selection of prizes to bring home as a thank you for participation!

Welcoming play area

When you first arrive, we have plenty of toys for children to play with so that they can become comfortable in the new setting.

Viewing Room for Parents

Once the session begins, all parents are invited to watch the testing session on a computer in our viewing room.

Child-Friendly Testing Room

The testing room is warm and inviting, filled with fun games that will measure children's cognitive development!
