We are not currently seeking adult participants. However, participating in research is beneficial not only for the community but for yourself as well. You often learn a little bit about yourself and about other community members similar to yourself. Because of your participation, we can distribute our results to the larger community with the hope of improving our knowledge about later adulthood. Getting involved in research is a fun and easy way to remain involved in your local community and stay connected with the academic advancements at Brock University.
If you are interested in hearing more about our research or if you are interested in participating in one of our studies, please contact us!
What have we found?
We hope to better understand the social changes that accompany the aging process to help promote well-being in the later stages of the lifespan. For example, we found that older adults are more willing to serve on a jury compared to younger adults, and that their increased life experience is a key quality that can help them served as informed jurors.
In addition, we found that compared to younger adults, older adults held more favorable views towards child witnesses. The nature of these cross-generational relationships can help to explain factors impacting social relationships across the lifespan. These results can lend insight into the nature and importance of relationships between grandchildren and grandparents.
Special thank you to Brock University and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for their funding support.
