Memory Experiment

3/5/2018

Picture
Put your short-term memory to the test with this at home memory experiment!
What you’ll need:
  • Tray or Plate
  • 10-20 small objects (if you want to test your own memory, have someone else choose the objects!)
  • Cloth or towel to cover tray/plate
  • Paper and pencil
What to do:
  1. Have someone spread the small objects they chose out on the plate or tray and place the towel over the plate so the objects are hidden.
  2. Before you try to memorize all the objects, predict how many you think you will be able to remember!
  3. Next, your helper will lift the towel off the tray and give you 1 minute to try and memorize all the objects on the tray.
  4. After one minute, they will cover the tray again with the towel.
  5. Now write down as many items as you can remember. Was your prediction correct?
  6. Keep playing as many times as you like. Try testing other people’s memory by choosing the objects yourself! You can make this easier or harder by adding or taking away objects on the tray.
