DIY Bird Feeders: To See What Wildlife Is Living In Your Backyard!

4/1/2019

Picture
What kind of small animals live in your backyard? Try making this bird feeder to see how many kinds of birds and animals live in your own backyard!

What you will need:
  • An Empty Toilet Paper Roll
  • A Jar of Peanut Butter
  • Bird Seed
  • Spreading Tools for the Peanut Butter
  • Blank Paper
  • Crayons
What to do:
  1. Take your toilet paper roll and spread peanut butter over the outside of the roll. Only use a thin layer of peanut butter so that it does not drip outside.
  2. Place your seed on a plate and roll the toilet paper roll over top. You will want to make sure the entire roll is covered in seeds for the birds to eat.
  3. Then place your bird feeder on a tree branch you can see from your house!
  4. Over the next few days look out the window and try to draw and name the animals that snack on your bird feeder.
What does this show us?
  • By making this bird feeder we can see the different animals that live in our own back yards!
  • After a few days of watching and drawing the animals that eat off of your bird feeder try answering a few of these questions:
  • What animals do I see visit the bird feeder the most?
  • How many colours of birds visit my bird feeder?
  • How long did it take for the seeds on my bird feeder to be eaten?
  • Are there any other animals besides birds that like to eat off my bird feeder?
